Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: Can it reach door jambs and badge surrounds, or is it limited to flat body panels?
A: It works best on large flat panels like bonnets, boot lids, roofs, and doors. A 150mm disc on a polisher cannot safely navigate door jambs, tight badge surrounds, or narrow panel edges. For those areas. Use the Clay Bar. A thorough decontamination typically combines both: the Clay Disc for speed on large panels and the Clay Bar for tight sections.
Q: What lubricant should I use, and how wet should the surface be?
A: Use a quick detailer spray or dedicated clay lubricant and keep the panel generously wet throughout. Never run the disc on a dry surface; the polymer will drag and immediately mar the paint. If you feel any resistance or hear a dragging noise. Add more lubricant before continuing.
Q: If the disc is dropped during use, can it be salvaged?
A: Yes. Rinse the pad under running water to flush out any grit picked up from the floor, inspect the surface, and carry on. Unlike a clay bar, which must be discarded after dropping because grit cannot be fully removed from malleable clay, the Clay Disc's rubberised polymer surface rinses clean.
Q: How does it compare to a clay bar for speed and lifespan?
A: Machine-processable decontamination pad with a 60-vehicle lifespan and roughly 3-4 times the speed of hand claying on large panels. Mounts to any DA or rotary polisher via velcro backing, or can be worked by hand. Dropped? Rinse and keep going, unlike a clay bar which is done if it hits the floor.
Q: How do I clean and store it after a session?
A: Rinse under running water while flexing the pad to flush trapped contamination out of the polymer surface. Air-dry completely before storage. Inspect before the next use; if it feels smooth and pliable it's still effective. Replace when the polymer face becomes significantly worn or doesn't rinse clean anymore.
